41,000 People Run London Marathon

More than 40,000 joined together to run the 2022 TCS London Marathon recently, in what was just the third time the race has taken place in October.

Although the date for the 26.2-mile run is usually in April, it has been in October for the last three years due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Event director Hugh Brasher said: “What an amazing day it’s been… The sun shone, and the amazing positivity that London is renowned for shone brightly too.”

At the 42nd London Marathon event, 38,156 people ran the route throughout the capital, while a further 2,500 completed the race virtually.

Yalemzert Yehualaw got the fastest time for a woman, with the 23-year-old from Ethiopia running over the finishing line in just two hours, 17 minutes, and 26 seconds. This is the third quicker time on record for a woman.

Kenyan-born Amos Kipruto completed the course in two hours, four minutes, and 39 seconds. The 30-year-old just beat Ethiopia’s Leul Gebresilase.

The event also saw some famous faces taking part, including Emmy award-winning actor Cynthia Erivo, McFly drummer Harry Judd, former England footballer Danny Mills, BBC newsreader Sophie Raworth, and radio DJ and reality TV star Mark Wright.

Chris Finill also took part in the event, having run every single one of the London Marathons since it launched in 1981. The 62-year-old completed the race in three hours, one minute, and 18 seconds.

Those who have put their name in the ballot for next year’s event, which will take place in April again, should put on their Air Max 90 GS black particle grey retro running shoes and start their training as soon as possible!
